Premiums

Schools get an annual budget, plus two “Premiums”:

  • Pupil Premium
  • Sports Premium (for primary-aged students)

Pupil Premium

This money is for schools to work with students who are entitled to receive free school meals, are Looked After Children, have been Adopted from Care or are children of Service Personnel. The government believe that these children are at a disadvantage when compared to their peers and that they need extra help.

We receive this money for over half of our students, but we also consider all of our students to be disadvantaged because of their learning difficulties or disability. We have therefore chosen to supplement this grant with money from the school budget to ensure that all children benefit from the full range of interventions we have developed with this funding.

How do we know what difference this funding makes to our students?

We carefully monitor the impact of interventions to ensure that we are using funds wisely and that any investment has the maximum impact on student attainment, linked to our curriculum drivers. We use an evidence-based approach with specific reference to the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF)'s Implementation Guidance Report. The pupil premium strategy is embedded within a broader strategic implementation cycle and approaches adopted are selected on the basis of strong educational evidence.

We can measure the impact of pupil premium funding through our assessment cycle which includes regular monitoring of student progress, behaviour data, attendance, progress towards Personal Learning Goals (PLGs) and Annual Reviews.

Our Pupil Premium Strategy 25-28 is available below, which includes our 24-25 spend.

Sports Premium

The Sports Premium is designed to help schools with primary-aged children, improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer students. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

All schools must report how they have spent their Sports Premium money each year.
