The Bees’ Needs Champions Awards celebrate fantastic work taking place across the country to protect and support our precious pollinators, including butterflies, bees, hoverflies and beetles.

Our Butterfly House 🦋🌸

We received our award for our exciting new Butterfly House, which we built from scratch here at Lampard Community School!

As part of the project, we researched which plants are particularly popular with butterflies and bees and carefully selected plants to create a welcoming space for them. Our hope is that the Butterfly House will attract lots of different species for our students to discover.

And the project certainly doesn’t stop there!

Our students will be involved in monitoring and recording the different butterflies that visit the Butterfly House, giving them the opportunity to learn more about the wildlife right here on our school grounds.

In the spring, we are also planning to nurture some caterpillars in the Butterfly House. Students will be able to follow their fascinating life cycle and, hopefully, watch them transform into beautiful butterflies. 🐛➡️🦋

A fantastic achievement for our school 💚

Supporting biodiversity and helping our students develop a love and respect for the natural world is incredibly important to us, so we are absolutely delighted to have our work recognised nationally.

We have also been invited to attend a special Bees’ Needs Champions Awards ceremony at RHS Garden Wisley, where we will receive our certificate.

We are so proud of everyone who has helped bring our Butterfly House to life and can’t wait to see which visitors arrive! 🐝🦋🌼
